報告題目：Innovative Algorithms for Big Data: Overview on Big Data Project
報告摘要：Japan is currently investing big government budget to accelerate the research for Artificial Intelligence and Big data. In this talk, I will give a brief overview of Big Data Project for which I am acting as a project leader. The project is funded by Japan Science and Technology Agencies (JST), and the project started in October 2014, and will end in March 2020. Total budget amounts to three hundred million yen.Big data is accumulated in many organizations. The rapid increase of data size exceeds the speed of the progress of hardware and algorithms. Due to such difficulty, we are facing with the problem such that we cannot cope with large-scale problems targetting on such big data. Namely, conventional polynomial time algorithms become obsolete. That motivate us to develop innovative algorithms for big data.
Prof. Naoki Katoh is a Specially Appointed Professor in the Department of Informatics, School of Science and Technology, Kwansei Gakuin University. His recent research interests are in Big Data, Optimization, Combinatorial Optimization, and Algorithm Analysis. He has over 160 peer-to-peer publications in SIAM Journal on Computing, Journal of the ACM, Mathematics of Operations Research, and other top-tier journals. He is now the leader of a team called Big Data Algorithms(2014.10-2020). This team consists of more than 50 researchers. In this talk Prof. Katoh will explain what they are doing and the major results obtained.
